Why take a Residential Intensive Driving Course?

These are some of the more common questions I get asked. Click on the question to reveal the answer.

Q. I was taking weekly driving lessons but gave up because I was wasn’t making progress. I found it expensive and frustrating. How will your intensive driving course be different?
A. We fully understand the frustrations of hourly / weekly lessons. That’s why Select Driving School was amongst the first driving schools in the country to offer intensive driving courses where you can learn to drive and successfully pass your driving test in just a few days.

You WILL make progress Think about it like this – If you wanted to learn to speak French would you learn quicker by listening to a CD for an hour a week, or by living in France for a week or so and having a teacher with you every day?
Q. I appreciate I will learn quicker but aren’t weekly lessons better than intensive crash courses?
A. Let me put your mind firmly at rest and explain why I think Intensive Driving Courses are much better than hourly lessons.

A typical driving lesson. Spend the first five to ten minutes going over what you did last lesson/ week in order to refresh your memory and highlight what you will be doing today. Drive under instruction for about fifteen minutes. Stop and debrief for a further five minutes. Turn around and drive for a further fifteen minutes back home. Further debrief setting aims and objectives for the next lesson, deal with any associated paperwork and next booking.

After a while you simply get to know the route and the lesson no longer becomes either interesting or challenging. This is why progress is slow or at worst not being made. Also, just as you are beginning to settle into the lesson you are home again. Sounds familiar?

With an intensive driving course you will be driving both morning and afternoon. Due to the length of each session your instructor will expose you to a much wider variety of different driving situations. This will rapidly speed up the learning progress and make each day more challenging and far more enjoyable. Ultimately, not only are you likely to be more successful but you will become a more confident and able driver. Don’t take my word for it, click here for our recent client testimonials.
Q. Why residential driving courses?
A. If you live too far away or simply don’t fancy the idea of commuting, many clients now prefer to stay with us on a residential basis. This allows them the chance to fully concentrate on the task at hand without the disturbances of either work or home surroundings. Also for city based clients the traffic congestion locally makes learning to drive unrealistic as most of your time is spent forced to sit stationary in traffic, great perhaps for clutch control but little else.

All our intensive and residential driving lessons ensure you have the freedom of driving in a stress free, semi-rural environment. With very little commercial traffic you will spend virtually all of your day driving, thus achieving great results fast.
Q. What type of accommodation can I expect?
A. We will fully discuss your requirements for accommodation with you and will be able to suggest accommodation ranging from simple bed and breakfast to top of the range four or five star hotels with fine dining and health / spa facilities. For the majority of clients wanting simple bed and breakfast we have negotiated special rates with great local hotels.

Based within the heart of our training area you can expect a lovely spacious newly decorated room with en suite facilities and a fantastic choice of breakfast. The average cost of accommodation is just £ 40.00 per night including breakfast.
Q. Can I commute in order to take my course?
A. Yes, of course and if necessary we will structure the training day accordingly to cater for this.
Q What will my day be like.
A. Your instructor will meet you each morning at your chosen hotel and outline the days events. The morning session will then begin. At around lunch time you and your instructor will stop and have a short refreshment break. During this break your instructor will tell you how the morning session has fared and then together you will set further aims and objectives for the afternoon session.

At the conclusion of the day your instructor will debrief the day’s activities with you, outline what’s expected for the following day and return you to your hotel.
Q. Will I take my test at the end of the course?
A. Your driving test will be booked prior to the start of your course. Assuming you make satisfactory progress throughout your course and your instructor is satisfied with your driving ability you will sit your driving test.
Q. What about my Theory test?
A. All our courses include both your theory test and driving test fee within the price (course fee will be reduced if you have already paid for either). We will book a theory test for you prior to starting the course or during the course if you prefer.
Q. I have found some residential driving schools cheaper than Select Driving School. Why is this ?
A. Yes, this may be true and we make no apology for this. Select Driving School will be more expensive than most. We are not a cheap driving school and don't pretend to be.
